Unless the process of possible purchase of agricultural land is maximally open, involving public discussion with authoritative experts and average citizens, the settling of the issue would be impossible. Land is the most important asset of Ukrainian people.
This was said by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ihor Kalyetnik, commenting on the fact that the Law “On Amendments to the Land Code of Ukraine” comes into force on December 20, 2012 and introduces a moratorium on the purchase and sale of agricultural land until January 1, 2016.
I.Kalyetnik stressed that he is grateful to the deputies of the previous convocation who, despite their ambitions, managed to stop and allow time for an informed decision.
“I am convinced that there are still a lot f nuances and mechanisms of using agricultural land that were not included in the Land Code. Apart from this, the Code cannot be implemented unless a nation-wide support is provided,” I.Kalyetnik noted.
According to I.Kalyetnik, the stand of the Communist Party of Ukraine fully coincides with its pre-election promises. Communists shall not vote for the purchase of land and shall not support privatization of social objects or reduction of social standards for population.
“I believe that our stand will be upheld by the representatives of other political forces that have declared similar principles and committed themselves to ensure improvement of living standards,” Ihor Kalyetnik said.
